FRESH RAW MILK |
IS HEALTHIER THAN OLD PASTEURIZED MILK
Remember Pottenger's cats -- this research is still some of the strongest when it comes to the dangers of pasteurization.
Raw foods are healthier for humans.
For those who like milk or dairy products, like cheese, butter and yogurt - it can be a struggle to find these products raw, in Texas.
Here are some suggestions:
First - go to www.realmilk.com - they have lists of raw dairies in Texas and all around the world. They also have lists of local (raw-milk / real-milk) Yahoo Groups to join.
Many of your local grocery stores, like Hubbell & Hudson, Kroger, HEB and Whole Foods Market, have raw imported cheeses, and US raw cheeses. Usually quite salted though. You may need to ask for help in finding them. Also, the local Saturday markets can sell raw cheeses, if matured for more than 8 months. One example of such a company is Houston dairymaids.
North of Houston, in The Woodlands suburb, we have this co-op
Join the GramenFarm_TheWoodlands CO-OP, which drives to Gramen Farm in Tomball for pickup,
and a goat farm only 15 minutes away, off 242 (between 1-45 and I-59), south of Conroe:
Findley Follies Farm.
Nextdoors to this goat farm there is a breeder of Dexter cows (Dovie Abshire). These small Irish cows give excellent A2 quality milk. If enough interest, they will start producing dairy as well. Signup for possible future raw milk production by calling: (281) 689-7095.
A little further north is NoneSuch Farm, breeding Dexter & Jersey cows, as well as Alpine goats, Red Wattle Hogs, heritage chickens, geese and ducks. Production of table eggs, dairy & other products available.
FOR THE FUTURE
To ever be able to purchase old-fashioned raw milk products normally, we may need to get politically involved!
Here are 2 important websites to keep track of: http://farmandranchfreedom.org and the Farm To Consumer Legal Defense Fund.
There is a North Houston raw milk facebook group to join.
